How to Know Your CRB Status Without Visiting a Bank in Kenya
Updated April 2026 • 4 min read
A common misconception among Kenyans is that you must visit a bank or bureau office to check your CRB status. This is not true. You can check your CRB status entirely remotely — no queues, no offices, no business hours. Here is how.
Why You Don't Need to Visit a Bank
Banks are not Credit Reference Bureaus — they are lenders who subscribe to CRB data. CRB reports are issued directly by the bureaus (TransUnion, Metropol, CreditInfo) and by authorised third-party platforms like crbcheck.co.ke. You never need to visit a bank specifically to check your own CRB record.
Method 1: Online via crbcheck.co.ke
Visit crbcheck.co.ke from any browser. Sign up (2 minutes), fill in your details, select a plan (KES 200 or KES 300), and pay via the M-Pesa STK push on your phone. Your report is generated and shown on screen — no bank, no office, no queue.
Method 2: Metropol USSD (*433#)
Dial *433# on a Safaricom line and follow the prompts to request your CRB status. This works without internet access and without visiting any physical location. Ideal for users in areas with limited connectivity.
Method 3: TransUnion Kenya Online Portal
Go to transunion.co.ke and register for a consumer account online. The entire process is self-service, with no need to visit any office for standard report requests.
Method 4: CreditInfo Kenya Consumer Portal
Register on the CreditInfo Kenya consumer portal and request your annual free report entirely online. Identity verification is done via OTP to your phone number.
Can I Submit a CRB Report for a Loan Application Without Going to the Bank?
Yes. Once you have your PDF report from crbcheck.co.ke or the bureaus, you can email it to the lender or loan officer, upload it through an online application portal, or print and submit it — all without visiting the bank for the CRB check step.
What About CRB Clearance Certificates?
A formal CRB clearance certificate (required for some jobs and tenders) may require in-person verification at the bureau for the first time. However, once your identity is verified, you can often request subsequent clearance letters online.
